SPRING GARDEN TIPS

Spring Garden TipsPlant shrubs, fruit trees and shade trees now to give them time to root before the summer heat. Prepare Garden beds for spring vegetables

Fertilize trees, shrubs and perennials now. Fertilize fruit trees as well. Check out our fertilizer schedule.

Use material from compost pile to: add to garden soil, as top dressing, or to fill in flower beds. Toss compost pile regularly.

Clean and shape perennial and evergreen shrubs, cut off any damaged, broken, or dead branches.

Use snail bait around hostas, cannas, and other snail loving plants. If you have pets use Sluggo or another NON metaldehyde containing product.

Start and plant warm weather annuals such as dianthus, petunias, marigolds, calibrachoas, California poppies.

Start and plant spring vegetables such as: tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squash, kale, corn, cantalope, and watermelon.

Aerate, de-thatch and fertilize existing lawns. Use a fertilizer with crabgrass preventer. Note : Make sure when using weed & feed type products that your lawn trees aren’t shallow rooted.

This is a good time to start or reseed a lawn.

Add 4” or so layer of organic mulch around beds, trees, and shrubs to keep weeds down and eventually break down and enrich your soil naturally!
